This Student’s guide has been published after the identification of the need to provide students (mainly undergraduate, but also postgraduate) with a vehicle for maximizing their performance in what is a relatively new format of clinical examinations. (The Objective Structured Clinical Examination - OSCE).
This need is especially relevant as the OSCE (or similar format for a clinical examination) is being increasingly used internationally.
The initial chapter outlines the relevant historical perspectives as well as theoretical principles and the general approach to the examination. The subsequent chapters then analyse in detail the requirements of the history, examination, technical and communication stations under the following headings:
- Examiner requirements
- Candidate preparation
- Examination technique
- Common errors
