Charles Denbow

Dr. Charles Denbow was a revered cardiologist who served as the Head of the Department of Medicine at the University of West Indies in the Faculty of Medicinal Sciences. Dr. Denbow published numerous peer-reviewed papers in international medical journals and made significant contributions to the field of cardiology, specifically in relation to the Caribbean.

He entered the Faculty of Medicine on a Government of Guyana Scholarship in October 1965 and attained a MBBS (UWI) Honours Degree. His undergraduate career was exceptional as Dr. Denbow received medals in Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology. Dr. Denbow was declared to be the best medical student of the graduating class of 1971 after all his hard work.

During his career Dr. Denbow served as an administrator at the UWI. He was the Vice Dean Clinical 1993 - 1994, Chair Faculty Sub-Committee on Graduate Studies 1993 - 1994, Head, Department of Medicine 1998 - 2004 and Chairman, just to name a few.

Due to his tireless and exemplary service Dr. Charles Denbow was awarded the National Honour, Order of Distinction (Commander Class) by the Government of Jamaica in April 2008, for Service to Medicine and the Teaching of Medicine.

Dr. Denbow passed away in 2009.
